Tired

the end of the day
the lines begin to blur
frustrations can mount
like anthills in africa

the end of the day
the tension in my head
no one should talk to me
it's not safe anymore

the end of the day
the exhaustion takes over
how was your meeting
just listen to mine

the end of the day
the dogs are waiting
food, water, let me out
we love you anyway

the end of the day
the work is still there
just until the battery runs out
one hour more on the couch

the end of the day
the dvr beckons
watch without interruption
let my brain shut down

the end of the day
the pillowcases are cold
this is my husband
in whom I am well pleased

the end of the day
the dreams started as stories
which one tonight
float off to the future
